Sophia Besunder, M.Ed., Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern
Sophia grew up in the Midwest and moved to Florida 10 years ago. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. While obtaining her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Florida Atlantic University, Sophia quickly became immersed in working with the community. She assisted at a local halfway house as a mentor for those with substance abuse issues, as well as working with an intervention agency. During her master’s training Sophia interned at a men’s substance abuse facility. This internship later transitioned to a full-time primary therapist position. Since that time, Sophia was employed at various coed dual diagnosis facilities in the area, which led to her position at Wellness Resource Center. Sophia believes that trauma plays a significant role in a client’s substance use and has completed her EMDR training. Sophia is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the International Honor Society of Professional Counseling and sat on the e-board during her studies.
